It’s only rock and roll, but I like it, like it, yes, I do.

Courtenay Bluebird in rock and/or roll shot.

Okay, so in theory, I am in the “all-clear” according to my doctor in regards to my giganto hair summer nightmare. (If you have no idea what I’m referring to, you will want to read this story on my initial experience with super lice.)

In order to get the all-clear, I had to use two of the most up-to-date medication treatment options on the American prescription market. It should have worked the first time, but since the wind is not at my back right now, it took a second soaking of my shorn locks (see photo) to kill everything.

Even right now, if my head itches, I jump. I’m still washing and changing my sheets every night. I’ve got a bleach-and-water bottle always at the ready. My house has never been more clean, and I’ve never felt quite this dirty.

I’ve been trying to work on a follow-up story to tell you the rest of what happened to me with those #$%@ing vermin— I’m finding it really hard to unpack that story for some reason. I guess I’m feeling pretty hexed these days. My hair breaks off in my hand now, and I exhausted myself so thoroughly that I slept—I kid you not—for almost two days straight this week.

So, here’s the question of the hour— is it over? Is it? I don’t know. I’ve combed so much that the doctor said I combed out all of my own dry skin. It’s been a week since I saw the doctor, and my comb hand is twitching. Is it over? Honestly, I don’t know. I hope so. But I’m not sure. Gosh, I’m ready to come down off of this widow’s walk. I really am.

As you may know, the Free Music Archive featured one of my mixes two weeks ago! It’s taken me two weeks to make a new mix, actually a pair of them… I set a few rules for myself to make the next set of mixes even more complex, and ended up tying myself up in aural knots, but I did it, finally. Here are the two mixes I made on the FMA:

The Chronic Dreamer and Her Dreams

The Chronic Dreamer Returns

I’m awfully proud of these two mixes made from music created all around the world (and wait ’til you see the art I made for both mixes!), made available by artists, net labels, curators, and the good folks of the FMA.

I’m also proud to be a member of the Free Music Archive— if you get a chance to stop by, do take a look around— this is the future of music. I’ve actually bought more new music as a result of finding new music on the Free Music Archives this summer than I purchased all spring. As you know, I listen to a lot of new music, and I do my very best to share the cream of the sonic crop with you all. So, you know, enjoy these, okay?

*Oh, hey! Speaking of enjoyment— D’ja see my new King Penguin t-shirt? I’ve been having so much fun listening to a ton of King Penguin psychedelic rock this last week, despite all of the… well, you know. Thank goodness for great music. Thank you, King Penguin Rocks!

  1. An experience with those vermin will make you itchy! UGH. Hope it’s better now
Will check out FMA – thanks

    • Oh, lovely Philosopher Mouse, I am still so itchy! And there’s nothing there! It’s getting better bit by bit. Now I’m only combing my hair for about an hour a day versus… hours and hours. Thank you so much for the kind thoughts. I hope you have lots of fun over at the FMA— there’s so much music on that site, and all of it is pretty damned amazing, I have to say. Yay!

  2. Dear Bluebird of the dermically challenged. Downloaded Secret Boyfriend and Chronic Dreamer. I can see why you’re proud. Tributo caught my attention and Time to Heal is still working through my brain. Looking forward to some uninterrupted listening time this weekend. Keep your light bright! Dan

    • Oh, Dan! You are such a joy to know, and you always bring some extra sunshine when you visit! I am so very stoked you downloaded both mixes! I wish I could stop being jumpy over what’s left of my hair, but just seeing your words on the page gave me a little frisson of joy. Thank you for that! —CB (P.S.— “dermatologically-challenged” has got to be the best phrase ever, Dan! I think you just described my entire life, actually. *Cracks up*)

  3. Will listen after dinner. :) Glad to have you back.

Hey there, cupcake! How are ya?
